blompod - an expandable and inflatable moon habitat which uses proven technologies such as, spacesuit dock, robotical arms, infalatable system, regolith structures.
habitat can host up to two astronauts with comfortable living space. structure of blompod consists of two main elements, pod core and inflatable structure which creates bigger spaces. newly arrived, unexpended pod has about 92 cubic meters, which means it can easily be transported to the moon as a cargo.
as it starts to ‚blossom’, living space grows bigger. inflatable structure gives blompod 183 extra cubic meters of free space which is extremely precious due to shortage of space when it comes to design in outer worlds.
stages of construction [blossom process]
1st stage - newly deployed lander with pod habitat arrives to it’s destination, earth’s moon
2nd stage - pod is being removed from the lander with a help of 2 moon rovers and located on moon’s surface, previously prepared for settlement
3rd stage - pod starts it’s ‚blossom’ stage, expandable parts reveal it’s inner core and pod starts to inflate in order to create bigger living area
4th stage - fully inflated habitat is ready to be covered with regolith protection shields
5th stage - first protection shield is made from regolith mixed with small doses of cement in order to create hard surface
6th stage - regolith surface is being covered with moon sand which creates additional radiation shield, and protection from smaller meteorites
7th stage - blompod is ready for full use as a living hq combined with moon operational center
inner pod core has been divided into two main parts. first one has hygiene area with toilet and shower, kitchen area is located on the ‚outer’ wall of pod's core. it’s accesible after blompod’s ‚blossom’ stage.
second side is equipped with sleeping area with two beds, and personal storage. core of the pod is also equipped with life sustaining system which is necessary in cosmos. inflated area is predicted to be workspace. it is equipped with minilabs and computers which allow us understand outer space in more complex way. what’s more half of the inflated area located near kitchen is predicted to be social/workout space for inhabitants.
